A new study has revealed that obesity may lower levels of sexual satisfaction, especially for women.

The study evaluated 91 obese men and 134 obese women who completed a sexual functioning questionnaire before enrolling in a weight loss study.

“We found that there was lower sexual satisfaction and lower sexual quality of life among women than men, and overall sexual quality of life was low among both groups,” Dr. Truls Ostbye, a professor in the department of community and family medicine, said in a Duke news release.

The researchers also compared the obese patients’ scores to the results from a group of cancer survivors and a general population group. Obese women’s scores were lower than both those groups’ scores, while obese men’s scores were between the scores of the cancer survivors and the general population group.

“Our findings contribute to a growing body of research that indicates obesity is associated with reduced sexual functioning and sexual quality of life among both men and women,” Ostbye said.

The study questionnaire included nine areas: interest, desire, arousal, orgasm, satisfaction, behavior, relationship, masturbation, and sexual problems.

According to a study carried out by the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC), a little self-reflection could do us all a world of good.

Julie McCarthy, associate professor of organizational behaviour at UTSC, said, “People need time to refocus in order to learn or study well.”

Feeling drained leads to lower levels of satisfaction with life and higher rates of burnout, depression and ill-health. And while playing multiple roles can be stimulating, interesting and lead to sense of accomplishment and achievement, McCarthy said there are real risks we need to be aware of.

“People need to assess which strategies they’re using to cope with their problems and make sure they’re making time for resource recovery,” she said.

“Too many roles can be detrimental unless we begin asking ourselves honest, pointed questions,” she added.

“This technique is traditionally seen as ‘running away from your problems’,” said McCarthy.

However, a live-in relationship doesn’t come with the secure trappings of a marriage. As court judgments try to keep up with changing social trends, it can be hard for people in live-in relationships to understand their rights. There’s not much one can do if a partner chooses to walk out of a relationship.

A while back, the Delhi High Court held that live-in relationships came with their own consequences. However, a few days later, the Supreme Court overruled this decision stating that live-ins can be presumed married if the couple has been living together for several years. Though most believe live-in relationships are like trial marriages, there seems to be no stopping the popularity of this concept even in the otherwise conservative countries of the world like India.
