Less satisfying sex lives for obese people

A new study has revealed that obesity may lower levels of sexual satisfaction, especially for women.

The study evaluated 91 obese men and 134 obese women who completed a sexual functioning questionnaire before enrolling in a weight loss study.

From news.yahoo.com:

We found that there was lower sexual satisfaction and lower sexual quality of life among women than men, and overall sexual quality of life was low among both groups,” Dr. Truls Ostbye, a professor in the department of community and family medicine, said in a Duke news release.

The researchers also compared the obese patients’ scores to the results from a group of cancer survivors and a general population group. Obese women’s scores were lower than both those groups’ scores, while obese men’s scores were between the scores of the cancer survivors and the general population group.

“Our findings contribute to a growing body of research that indicates obesity is associated with reduced sexual functioning and sexual quality of life among both men and women,” Ostbye said.

The study questionnaire included nine areas: interest, desire, arousal, orgasm, satisfaction, behavior, relationship, masturbation, and sexual problems.

Happiness key to well being and longevity

Happiness key to well being and longevity

According to a recently concluded study, there is a ‘clear and compelling evidence’ that happy people live longer and experience greater well being than their unhappy peers.

The findings were based on a review of 160 studies of human and animal subjects.

From in.news.yahoo.com:

University of Illinois professor emeritus of psychology Ed Diener analysed long-term studies of human subjects, experimental human and animal trials, the journal Applied Psychology: Health and Well-Being reports.

‘We reviewed eight different types of studies,’ Diener said. ‘And the general conclusion from each type of study is that your subjective well-being — that is, feeling positive about your life — contributes to both longevity and better health.’

For instance, a study that followed nearly 5,000 university students for more than 40 years, found that those who were most pessimistic as students tended to die younger than their peers, according to an Illinois statement.

An even longer-term study that followed 180 Catholic nuns from early adulthood to old age found that those who wrote positive autobiographies in their early 20s tended to outlive those who wrote more negative accounts of their young lives.

Positive moods lower stress-related hormones, increase immune function, and promote the speedy recovery of the heart after exertion.

Workplace myths debunked

Workplace myths debunked

If you think that all your colleagues are friends and life is all about your job and the family & personal life are taking backseats, it is high time that you think again.

The New York Daily News has reported that people need to avoid the work at times and sleep else their sense of self will erode any time their job disappoints them.

From in.news.yahoo.com:

Your Money columnist Carolyn Kepcher, author of the best-selling book ‘Carolyn 101,’ tells you the top nine areas in which it’s important to maintain a healthy sense of reality:

My boss reads my mind – Lobby for your promotion and take the initiative of talking to your boss about it. Many workers make the mistake of not engaging in any self-promotion at all – and then suffer the crushing disappointment of not receiving a pay raise, or a promotion.

Co-workers are friends – Although you may find friends at work, it’s very important to draw boundaries. Unlike friendships or romances gone awry, you have no choice but to see your co-workers every single workday.

Salaries are set fairly – It’s your responsibility to negotiate for a higher salary. Employers will pay what they feel they need to pay to hire and keep an employee, and nothing more.

H.R. is here to help me – They will help you, but their true job is to protect the organization. There are certain areas in which it may be best not to seek the H.R. department’s assistance, such as using them as a shoulder to cry on for your every workplace woe.

You aren’t indispensable – Millions of workers learned that their jobs are not as secure as they once thought. Being valuable is realistic, feeling irreplaceable is not.

These eye opening revelations will surely help you see other side of the road, which has been neglected for long.

Why success is exclusive to some

If you find it hard to attain success and think that success is exclusive to a few, this compilation of motivational quotes will change your thinking for the rest of your life.

The key to realizing a dream is to focus not on success but significance – and then even the small steps and little victories along your path will take on greater meaning. – Oprah Winfrey

I’ve come to believe that each of us has a personal calling that’s as unique as a fingerprint – and that the best way to succeed is to discover what you love and then find a way to offer it to others in the form of service, working hard, and also allowing the energy of the universe to lead you. - Oprah Winfrey

The toughest thing about success is that you’ve got to keep on being a success. Talent is only a starting point in this business. You’ve got to keep on working that talent. Someday I’ll reach for it and it won’t be there. - Irving Berlin

A successful individual typically sets his next goal somewhat but not too much above his last achievement. In this way he steadily raises his level of aspiration. – Kurt Lewin

Formulate and stamp indelibly on your mind a mental picture of yourself as succeeding. Hold this picture tenaciously. Never permit it to fade. Your mind will seek to develop the picture…Do not build up obstacles in your imagination. – Norman Vincent Peale

The happiness of a man in this life does not consist in the absence but in the mastery of his passions. - Alfred Lord Tennyson

If there were in the world today any large number of people who desired their own happiness more than they desired the unhappiness of others, we could have paradise in a few years. – Bertrand Russell

Pamela Anderson turns Playboy poet

Pamela Anderson will be on the cover of adult magazine Playboy for the 13th time, a record in the magazine’s 57-year history, but this time she will be offering a piece of her mind to the readers.

The New York Daily News has reported that the 43-year-old has penned a poem to accompany the eight-page nude pictorial in the magazine’s January issue.

From in.news.yahoo.com:

The actress-turned-activist’s appearance comes 21 years after her first stint on the magazine’s cover and three years since she last graced its pages.

The ”Baywatch” star mimics actress Anita Ekberg’s famous scene in the 1960 Fellini film ”La Dolce Vita”, where her character cavorts in Rome’s Trevi Fountain in a slinky black dress.

Anderson, whose recent stint in the Indian reality TV show ”Bigg Boss” had grabbed headlines, wrote about politics and the new sexual revolution.

Urging politicians to “Put that money to good use,” Anderson ends by saying “May all your bombs be bombshells.”

Playboy readers will surely be appreciating to see the beautiful Anderson writing a poem in their favorite magazine.
