According to the latest results of a large screening trial, annual screening for prostate cancer doesn’t cut men’s chances of dying from the disease.

Researchers found while comparing men who were screened each year with so-called PSA tests, for prostate specific antigen, or rectal exams to those who received their usual care that more men in the screening group had been diagnosed with prostate cancer after 13 years and there was no difference in how many had died from it.

“Men, if they’re considering screening, should be aware that there’s a possibility that there’s little or no benefit (and) that there certainly are harms to PSA screening,” said study co-author Philip Prorok, from the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland.

Under plans to toughen up the National Curriculum, children will have to learn their times tables by the age of nine.

A new study has revealed that obesity may lower levels of sexual satisfaction, especially for women.

The study evaluated 91 obese men and 134 obese women who completed a sexual functioning questionnaire before enrolling in a weight loss study.

“We found that there was lower sexual satisfaction and lower sexual quality of life among women than men, and overall sexual quality of life was low among both groups,” Dr. Truls Ostbye, a professor in the department of community and family medicine, said in a Duke news release.

The researchers also compared the obese patients’ scores to the results from a group of cancer survivors and a general population group. Obese women’s scores were lower than both those groups’ scores, while obese men’s scores were between the scores of the cancer survivors and the general population group.

“Our findings contribute to a growing body of research that indicates obesity is associated with reduced sexual functioning and sexual quality of life among both men and women,” Ostbye said.

The study questionnaire included nine areas: interest, desire, arousal, orgasm, satisfaction, behavior, relationship, masturbation, and sexual problems.

According to a recently concluded study, there is a ‘clear and compelling evidence’ that happy people live longer and experience greater well being than their unhappy peers.

The findings were based on a review of 160 studies of human and animal subjects.
