From in.news.yahoo.com:

Whether it’s a broken bone in a road accident or a seizure attack at home, panic seems to be the only reaction we can muster. But this is clearly not enough. Here we guide you on how to deal with some common emergencies.

Extreme pain- No movement or extreme pain with movement. Deformity or swelling – BONES can get fractured in various incidents, from road accidents to falls. A weak skeletal structure makes children and the elderly more prone to them. Anyone who has a fall, or injury and experiences pain in the bone needs to be examined to ascertain whether this is a sprain or a fracture.

Bleeding in the injured area should be treated first, by cleaning the area carefully with an antiseptic and applying a sterile dressing. Do not bandage the injury site tightly. You can also use a cold pack on the fractured area- ice should be wrapped in a clean piece of cloth before application to prevent frostbite.

“Immobilise the fractured limb using a homemade splint for leg or sling for the arm,” says Dr Prateek Gupta, consultant sport medicine, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. For a leg injury, use two splintsone on the inner leg from the foot to the inner thigh, and the other, on the outside. Keep the leg above heart level to keep swelling to a minimum.

Remember, life is precious even if it is of a person unknown to you. Your small efforts can save a life from meeting an abrupt end.

MCD Page on Facebook from January
Author: admin

Posted in News | |

MCD Page on Facebook from JanuaryThe MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) is planning to set up a similar page like the Delhi Traffic Police page on the popular social networking website, Facebook.

The MCD is all set to start operating on Facebook from January, offering a unique focus on monitoring garbage removal in the national capital.

From in.news.yahoo.com:

“The page will be aimed at monitoring cleanliness and garbage removal in the city. The citizens can also interact with us. They can upload pictures, videos or file a complaint about sanitation condition in their area which will then be addressed fast,” MCD Additional Commissioner (Engineering) Anshu Prakash said today.

He said the Facebook page will become active from the first week of January. The permission for this has already been given by the Municipal Commissioner.

There are a total of 2,500 garbage dumping sites in the areas under MCD’s jurisdiction and their locations will be listed on the page. People can register their complaints and suggestions online. Officials said NGOs will also be approached for their cooperation and they may also contribute in making the capital cleaner.

Out of the MCD’s 12 zones, sanitation has been privatised in eight. The private agencies responsible for these areas will have to take action on complaints posted on the site.

Officials said the move will help the civic body interact with citizens in a better way and ensure transparency. The Facebook page will help fix accountability and responsibility, they said.

The civic body is expected to include more areas like public health and roads on the upcoming Facebook page if the experiment is successful.

Keira Christina Knightley, the popular English actress, who rose to prominence after doing Bend It Like Beckham and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, may be one of the most gorgeous stars in Hollywood but even she has had her share of beauty hang-ups like all.

The 22-year old, Keira Knightley, admitted in a recent interview that she has a tendency to develop the odd spots can feels awkward at times to have her photograph taken.

From in.movies.yahoo.com:

Return of mom to work does not affect babies

Return of mom to work does not affect babies

A groundbreaking study has revealed that mothers can get back to work after the birth of their child without the baby’s well-being suffering as a result.

American academics claim to have produced the first full picture of the effect of maternal employment on child cognitive and social development after assessing the total impact on a child of the mother going out to work, including factors outside the home.

From Timesofindia.indiatimes.com:

“The good news is that we can see no adverse effects,” said American academic Jane Waldfogel, currently a visiting professor at the London School of Economics.

Several studies over the past two decades have suggested that children do worse if their mothers go back to work in the first year of their lives.

The new study, led by New York’s Columbia University School of Social Work, was published last week by the Society for Research in Child Development.

The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Study of Early Child Care followed more than 1,000 children from 10 geographic areas aged up to seven, tracking their development and family characteristics.

It found that, while there are downsides to mothers taking work during their child’s first year, there were also significant advantages – an increase in mothers’ income and wellbeing, and a greater likelihood that children receive high-quality childcare. Taking everything into account, the researchers said, the net effect was neutral.

The Guardian reported that this is good news for mothers and will give enough comfort to them when they express interest in re-entering the employment market within a year of giving birth.
