Prince William of Britain is all set to marry his long-term girlfriend, Kate Middleton, next year according to an announcement by the Buckingham Palace.

The announcement put an end to months of media speculations about plans to the couple to wed.

William, 28, the elder son of heir-to-the-throne Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana, and Middleton, 28, daughter of self-made entrepreneurs, became engaged while on holiday in Kenya last month.

“The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton,” Charles’s office said in a statement.

“The wedding will take place in the spring or summer of 2011, in London. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course.”

The statement said William had informed Queen Elizabeth and also sought the permission of Middleton’s father.

The Queen and William’s grandfather, Prince Philip, said they were delighted at the news, while a cabinet meeting held by Prime Minister David Cameron was interrupted by a call from Buckingham Palace with the announcement.

“The prime minister is delighted to hear the news and has passed on his best wishes to the happy couple,” Cameron’s spokesman said.

William met Middleton when they shared a house at university in Scotland in 2001.

Extracts from the book, ‘Light of the world: The Pope, The Church, The Sign Of The Times,’ were published in the Vatican’s official newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, and were interpreted as a significant change in the Church’s teaching.

German journalist Peter Seewald has written the book.

In it the Pope cites the use of condoms by prostitutes as “a first step towards moralisation” even though condoms are “not really the way to deal with the evil of HIV infection”.

After the Pope first mentions that the use of condoms could be justified in limited cases, such as by prostitutes, Seewald asked in the book: “Are you saying, then, that the Catholic Church is actually not opposed in principle to the use of condoms?” reports the Daily Mail.

Benedict replied: “She of course does not regard it as a real or moral solution, but, in this or that case, there can be nonetheless, in the intention of reducing the risk of infection, a first step in a movement toward a different way, a more human way, of living sexuality.”

The Pope goes as far as mentioning the ‘ABC principle’ (Abstinence-Be faithful-Condom) on stopping the spread of AIDS.

The Pope, however, made it clear that his comments were not meant to weaken the Church’s fundamental opposition to artificial birth control.

According to a new study, putting the cellphone aside before going to sleep can be good for one and all as texting before going to bed can affect sleep and moods.

Dr. Peter G. Polos of JFK Medical Center in Edison, N.J., and colleagues found that text messaging and other electronic communication media were associated with excessive movement during sleep, insomnia, and leg pain at night in students ages 8 to 22.

The report linked “high rates of daytime cognitive or mood problems … including ADHD, anxiety, depression, learning difficulties,” with late-night usage of mobiles and other electronic media.

“Attempts at limiting use at bedtime appear to be reasonable,” ABC News quoted the researchers as saying.

They suggested that parents set appropriate times for text messaging and other technology use and take proactive steps like moving computers out of the bedroom.

The participants averaged 33.5 text messages or e-mails sent per night to an average of 3.7 people for a total of 3,404 text messages per person per month.

These occurred from 10 minutes to four hours after bedtime.

Dr. David D. Gutterman of the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee said physicians should ask questions about technology use when evaluating children for sleep issues.
